Ever heard of Tajikistan? We found it in Brooklyn.
Bordering Afghanistan, China, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan is the tiny Central Asian country of Tajikistan. Our friend Sheroz immigrated here from Tajikistan a few years ago, first to Memphis, and then to NYC.
We joined Sheroz for a day and went to the best Tajik restaurant in his neighborhood, Tandir Express, to eat Plov, his favorite dish from back home.
Despite being halfway across the world from home, when Sheroz comes to this restaurant he feels like he’s back in Tajikistan.
A little more backstory: Sheroz comes from Rushan, a small village in the Pamir Mountains. During the Mongol Rally, we drove through the Pamir Highway and just so happened to stop in Rushan overnight. The people of the village invited us to a baby-naming party and they were incredible hosts. We even shared some pictures and videos with Sheroz of our night in Rushan.
